    • An Interesting Story: From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Unleashing the Power of Personality Development

      Let me explain to you how, with this 5-minute eye-opening story, my student, a lecturer at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and me.

      I am a registered Soft Skill Trainer for a central government training centre for teachers, and I train the teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya. Last year, I had a heated debate on a controversial topic at that place. A teacher said that, unlike in older times, today’s children don’t respect teachers. In the Vedic Civilization, teachers were given first-class treatment, and the Brahmanas (or the teaching class) used to be the head of the society - India was known as a golden bird. And today - when no child dreams of being a teacher while growing up - India’s Research & Development contributes to only 0.65% of the GDP (2018 stats).

      I asked him, is our teaching methodology perfect and up to date? He said, of course, yes.

      I said, please hear what I say and then decide. Our current education system has stayed the same for hundreds of years. The K-12 (or 10+2) education system is designed to create factory workers - people meant to do repetitive work where no creative labour is required. These students are graded majorly based on theory. Also, essential life skills, like public speaking, negotiations, body language, communication skills, etc., should be taught in schools. Do you know that the highest paying positions in any field are leadership positions - and leadership is never taught in our education system? After hearing me out, he accepted that I was right.
      That teacher called me in August 2020 - just after NEP was introduced. He was shocked because of the introduction of NEP. He said that the government had introduced many positive changes in the NEP. He had the following problems with NEP.

      First, teachers would be assessed according to a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for recruitment- and this test would contain two parts - theory and interview. Cracking the interview was tricky for him.
